A testable model of consumption with externalities
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a nonparametric model of interdependent preferences, where an individual’s consumption may act as an externality on the preferences of other consumers. We assume that individual price consumption data is observed for all consumers. It is known that the general consumption model with externalities imposes few restrictions on the observed data, where the consistency requirement is Nash rationalizability. We motivate potential games as an important sub class of games where the family of concave potential games is refutable and imposes stronger restrictions on observed data. We use this framework to extend the analysis of Brown and Matzkin [D. Brown, R. Matzkin, Testable restrictions on the equilibrium manifold, Econometrica 64 (1996) 1249–1262] on refutable pure exchange economies to pure exchange economies with externalities. Finally, we discuss an application of this model to inter-household consumption data. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. JEL classification: C14; C72; D11; D59

An Afriat Theorem for the collective model of household consumption
An Afriat Theorem for the Collective Model of Household Consumption We provide a nonparametric ‘revealed preference’ characterization of rational household behavior in terms of the collective consumption model, while accounting for general (possibly non-convex) individual preferences. We establish a Collective Axiom of Revealed Preference (CARP), which provides a necessary and sufficient condit...
متن کاملGreen tax effect on Iran’s health sector: A general equilibrium approach
Despite positive aspects of energy consumption, their negative externalities i.e., environmental pollutions, are considerable. Green taxes, paid for products and services that are not environmentally friendly, are recommended as an efficient way of improving health indices. Since, Iran is among the countries with high per capita consumption of energy, pollution can be a kind of threat. In this ...
متن کاملIncreasing Top Wages and the Growth of Non-tradable Jobs: an Analysis at the Local Labor Market Level
Census data show that low-skill workers in the United States are increasingly employed in non-traded jobs. As a consequence, their employment opportunities and their earnings are increasingly dependent on physical proximity to high-wage earners that are the customers for these services. We present a model for a local economy that captures this idea and delivers testable implications that can he...

In recent years, synergistic policies, regulations, and procedures have been developed in higher education that have resulted undesirable outcomes that have led the university to unethical behaviors in the research process. The irregular growth of universities and higher education institutions, changes in regulations of theses and dissertations, paper-based faculties promotion regulations are t...
متن کاملA Novel Model for the Analysis of Interactions Between Governments and Agricultures in a Study of Social Beneficial Externalities Based on the Stackelberg Game: A Case Study on Cotton Production
Production is a key economic activity with potential long-term social benefits that can be thoroughly realised only if governments comply with their duties towards domestic production. Governments are responsible for the production of sustainable agricultural products via appropriate allocation of subsidies and regulation of price policies that would help take advantage of the potentials underl...
